Allan Course has worked in the financial sector for over thirty years since graduating from London University and has been involved in pensions for most of this time.

He is an independent pension scheme trustee with Capital Cranfield Trustees, specialising in investment, risk management and governance. Prior to joining Capital Cranfield he was a Partner at Watson Wyatt, leading a trustee consulting team.

Allan has been an active participant in the wider pensions field for many years and currently is a co-opted member of two of the Pensions Regulator’s working groups - Governance, and Trustee Knowledge and Understanding. He is also a Director of the Board of the Community Interest Company “Raising Standards of Pensions Administration”.

Roy Carr is one of the four directors of Foresight Trustees Limited – a company established in 2007 offering services as a professional independent pension trustee.

Roy is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries. Over a consulting career spanning more than 30 years with Mercer until 2006, he was involved with over 200 pension schemes of varying sizes and complexity. In addition to providing actuarial advice, he also advised on investment strategy, scheme design, communication issues and general interpretation of scheme documents and legislation.

He has provided leadership notably in the areas of professional standards and regulatory compliance in the past at Mercer and more recently in Foresight Trustees.

Shalin is a Structurer in the Structured Solutions Team with responsibilities which involve the structuring and implementation of bespoke derivative-based solutions for pension fund clients, including swaps and equity derivatives.

He joined LGIM in 2007 from Mercer Investment Consulting where he consulted on and implemented LDI strategies.

Prior to this he worked for Hewitt Associates where he gained further experience in pensions and investment consulting. Prior to leaving South Africa, Shalin worked for Sanlam Life Limited as Head of Consultant Relations.

Shalin is a qualified actuary and started his career in product management and development for group life and investment policies.

Michelle Dunne, Director, joined the Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index group in 2007 and is the London-based Product Specialist for the CS Tremont range of products. Michelle joined from Pioneer Investments where she spent 7.5 years as the Global Relationships Manager for Pioneer’s key client relationships. Prior to this, Michelle spent almost 4 years with Goldman Sachs in London and New York in Private Client Services and the Asset Management division, respectively. Michelle holds a B.A. in French & Italian from University College Dublin and a postgraduate Diploma in International Marketing Management from the College of Marketing & Design, Dublin.

Ms. Eltz is a Vice President and Product Manager responsible for European and UK Real Return Products. She joined PIMCO in 2007, having previously worked in the executive office of Allianz Global Investors for two years. Prior to that, Ms. Eltz was a proprietary derivatives trader and Eurex market maker with Botta Derivatives Trading GmbH in Frankfurt, Germany. Antoinette has 5 years of investment experience and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Swarthmore College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

While Con is perhaps best known for his quantitative work in investment performance measurement and forecasting with techniques such as the Omega function and metrics, he has also been involved with pensions as a fund manager and trustee since the early 1970s, when he managed the NATO provident fund. His professional career included periods as an analyst with INA on P&C and large risk insurance and subsequently CIGNA in life, pensions and health-care.

He chaired the European Federation of Financial Analysts’ Societies committee on methods and measures from 1994 until 2001. He is a member of the steering committees of the Finance Research Institute and Financial Econometrics Research Centre at the University of Warwick, a member of the Societe Universitaire Europeene de Recherche en Finance and of the American Finance Association. He is currently an advisor to the OECD’s working party on private pensions and to the World Bank.

Olivia Mayell, vice president, is client portfolio manager for the Global Multi-Asset Group, based in London, responsible for the range of convertible, total return, balanced and fund of fund products from GMAG. Prior to this, Olivia was a client portfolio manager for the global equity product range at JPMorgan. An employee since 2000, Olivia joined as a graduate trainee. Olivia obtained a BSc (Hons.) in Natural Science from Durham University.

Marwan Naja is Head of Private Equity at Pictet & Cie, one of Switzerland's leading private banks with assets under management and administration of approximately $400 billion. He has overall responsibility over the Bank's $12 billion private equity business including fund of funds products, discretionary mandates and advisory.

Mr. Naja's private equity career extends back over 15 years. His experience includes positions as Managing Director and Head of the Emerging Europe, Middle East & Africa Private Equity Group at Bankers Trust / Deutsche Bank, Partner at Fay, Richwhite focusing on LBO and technology investments and CEO of his own firm where he focused on venture investments.

Mr. Naja has a B.A. in economics and political science from Indiana University and an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.

Mark is an Executive Officer at Nomura Asset Management U.K. Limited, and is responsible for the institutional business development, product management and client servicing operations of the business, covering the entire EMEA region. He has been with the firm since 1999. Over five years ago, Mark set out to build an innovative Global Emerging Markets strategy that involves three regional specialist managers. NAM Singapore manages the Emerging Asia region while two external specialist managers handle the EMEA and Latin America regions. Currently the strategy is a little over two years old, as far as the management of “live” money is concerned, and has some 11 institutional clients and $500m under management. Prior to joining Nomura, Mark held a number of client relationship and business development roles at Morley Fund Management in London.

Martin Currie is an Edinburgh-based specialist equity manager with offices in London, New York, Shanghai and Melbourne. Andy joined the business in 2005 as managing director with responsibility for marketing, distribution and product management globally. He is a member of Martin Currie's executive committee and was appointed to the main board in 2007. Previously, he worked for Investec Fund Managers, where he was joint managing director with responsibility for the pooled fund businesses in the UK and Europe, and was a main board director for Investec Asset Management. Prior to this, Andy spent 12 years at Scottish Widows Fund Management, where he was instrumental in building up their pooled fund business.

Mark began his career with Price Waterhouse where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant specialising in financial services and particularly life insurance. He has held a number of senior positions in the financial services industry at Commercial Union, Barclay’s, Axa UK plc (Chief Executive, 1996 – 2001) and Prudential - UK and Europe (Chief Executive, 2001 – 2005).

Initially backed by Numis, and then with £500 million of equity financing from a number of institutions including Deutsche Bank, Mark founded Paternoster in December 2005. Paternoster is a regulated insurance company that takes on the risks associated with companies’ final salary/defined benefit pension schemes.

Steve joined Railpen in June 2008 as an Investment Manager with responsibility for public equity. He previously spent 4 years at Hewitt Associates as a Senior Manager Researcher specialising in global unconstrained equities, hedge funds, commodities and infrastructure managers. He also spent 7 years as a European fund manager and analyst, at ISIS Asset Management (now part of F&C). He is IIMR qualified and has a BSc in Human Geography and Economics from Loughborough University.

Lynda Whitney joined Hewitt (then Bacon & Woodrow) in 1997 after graduating with a first-class degree in Economics from the University of Warwick. She qualified as an Actuary in 2001 and has held a Scheme Actuary certificate since 2004.
She works primarily for the Trustees of utilities clients and financial services clients. Her largest scheme actuary appointment is to a scheme of about £3bn and her smallest to a scheme of about £100m. She has expertise in a range of risk management solutions including contingent asset solutions, buy-out and buy-in, and funding flightpaths. She also has experience of Trustee education and training. She is a regular spokesperson for Hewitt on Trustee issues.
